Visualized atomic scale manufacturing
【Abstract】
A fundamental understanding of atomic-scale manufacturing requires the ability to capture real-time structural evolution under complex processing conditions involving diverse external fields and environments. By setting up an nano-laboratory inside a transmission electron microscope (TEM), we have developed in situ TEM-based techniques that enable simultaneous fabrication and observation at the atomic scale, making manufacturing to become visible, understandable and controllable. Using these methodologies, the studies directly reveal new phenomena and underlying mechanisms in various manufacturing processes, including electron-beam-assisted and electrically/thermally-driven fabrication. These results provide a foundation for atomic-precision processing and the on-demand construction of materials and structures, thereby opening new opportunities for the development of advanced fabrication strategies, novel materials, and next-generation devices.
要从根本上理解原子尺度制造,就必须能够捕捉在涉及多种外场和环境的复杂加工条件下,材料结构的实时演化过程。通过在透射电子显微镜(TEM)内部搭建纳米实验室,我们开发出了基于原位透射电子显微镜的技术。该技术能够在原子尺度下同时实现制造与观测,进而让制造过程变得 “可见、可懂、可控”。借助这些方法,相关研究直接揭示了多种制造工艺中的新现象及内在机制,其中包括电子束辅助制造、电驱动制造和热驱动制造等。这些研究成果为原子精度加工以及按需构建材料与结构奠定了基础,从而为先进制造策略、新型材料和下一代器件的发展开辟了新机遇。
【BIOGRAPHY】
Litao Sun is a Distinguished Professor and Vice President at Southeast University. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2005 from the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Mainz, Germany. Prof. Sun has been recognized with several prestigious honors, including the National Science Fund for Distinguished Youth Scholars and appointment as a Changjiang Distinguished Professor at Southeast University. He currently serves as the Director of the Key Laboratory of Micro-Electro-Mechanical System of Ministry of Education.Prof. Sun’s research focuses on micro- and nano-electronic materials and devices, visualized atomic-scale manufacturing, and in-situ electron microscopy. He has published 3 academic books and more than 300 journal papers, including 2 in Science, 25 in Nature and Nature series journals. Since 2018, he has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher . Prof. Sun’s achievements have been further honored with multiple major awards, including the First Prize of Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Awards, the Xplorer Prize, the China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Innovation and Promotion Award, and the First Prize of Invention and Entrepreneurship Award.
孙立涛是东南大学特聘教授、副校长。他于2005年在中国科学院上海应用物理研究所获得博士学位,随后在德国美因茨大学开展博士后研究工作。孙教授荣获多项殊荣,包括国家杰出青年科学基金资助,并被聘为东南大学长江学者特聘教授。目前,他担任教育部微机电系统重点实验室主任。孙教授的研究方向聚焦于微纳电子材料与器件、可视化原子尺度制造以及原位电子显微技术。他已出版 3 部学术专著,发表学术期刊论文 300 余篇,其中 2 篇发表于《科学》(Science)期刊,25 篇发表于《自然》(Nature)及《自然》子刊。自 2018 年起,他持续入选 “高被引科学家”(Highly Cited Researcher)榜单。孙教授的学术成就还获得了多项重要奖项认可,包括江苏省科学技术奖一等奖、“科学探索奖”(Xplorer Prize)、中国产学研合作创新与促进奖,以及发明创业奖一等奖。
